The 6 Crucial Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make

and how to fix them

You’re going to make mistakes. It’s part of the entrepreneurial journey. But, the more we can minimize these mistakes, or act to correct them sooner in the journey, rather than later, the smoother the journey will be. And most importantly, the more poised for growth your business will be, and the less you may fall prey to imposter syndrome, doubt, confusion, and stagnation. Because that’s what happens when business isn’t smooth or easy. It’s easy to place the blame on yourself — your ability, your talent, your experience — instead of the true culprit: easy-to-make admin and operational mistakes.

I have worked with dozens of entrepreneurs and small businesses in my 10+ years as an Online Business Manager and Fractional COO. I’ve worked with entrepreneurs that bring in less than $50,000 a year, and entrepreneurs that clear 7-figures a year. I’ve worked on big teams with 10 or more contractors and employees, and small teams where it is just me and the business owner. Beyond that, I have served roles in these businesses that put me in large groups of entrepreneurs in business-building programs and answered their questions, helped them with logistical and operations bits, and heard their stories of frustration with tech and marketing, and everything else. And guess what? The 6 mistakes identified in this mini-course can be found in every single one of those businesses, at any and every stage. Part of my job has always been to come in, identify these mistakes/gaps, and fix them.

SO WHAT ARE THESE 6 MISTAKES?

Mistake #1: Not Being Organized
Mistake #2: Not Setting up Tech Correctly
Mistake #3: Not Clearly Defining Your Audience
Mistake #4: Not Creating a Sustainable Social Media Strategy
Mistake #5: Not Thinking About the Big Picture & the Future of Your Business
Mistake #6: Not Making Evidence-Based Decisions in Your Business

“Mandy’s organisational genius, meticulous eye for detail, the rigour and precision she brings to everything she does; her research skills, dedication, and ability to steer a project from conception to completion are, quite simply, phenomenal. She is an outstandingly skilled communicator, a creative and generous collaborative partner, that one person who keeps everyone on our team focused and working harmoniously together.”

— Hiro Boga, Founder, Deva Alchemy Academy, Award-winning Author

“I have never, in all my 20 years in business, met someone as organised, efficient and unflappable as Mandy. She’s always looking ahead, months in advance, and putting frameworks in place that mean our company launches are always spacious and structured, with no stress or urgency.

Mandy has one of those brains that fill me with awe (!) and deep, deep gratitude that I get to have her on my team. She truly is my right hand woman and I couldn’t imagine life or business without her by my side.”

— Ellie Seilern, CEO + Chief Culture Maker at Deva Alchemy Academy

“Working with Mandy has been a steady and grounding experience. As I stepped into a completely new chapter of building my business, she brought clarity, calm, and thoughtful guidance to every stage of the process.

Mandy’s ability to simplify complexity and provide grounded, practical advice made an enormous difference. I’m deeply grateful for her steadiness, her insight, and the care she brought to her work.

She helped me build the foundation I needed, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone beginning their own journey.”

— Cherie Sawaryn, Founder of BeeKind Hive

From chaos to clarity, a backlog to clean slate, in turn leading to the capacity to do more of the important things. That is what having Mandy’s support creates. She is direct, responsive, responsible, fun, and smart.

Please don’t hire her away from the rest of us.

— Andrea J. Lee, International activist, Coach, Author, & Speaker

“Mandy, has elevated my business and brought a sense of elegant flow to the ‘backend’ running’s of my online world. She makes me feel supported, and held.

Most importantly, with Mandy holding space for my client enquiries or admin, I feel calm while I am away from work: I trust everything and everyone is in good hands.”

— Joey Remenyi, Founder & Director Seeking Balance International, Author of ‘Rock Steady’ & ‘Sensing Ground’

“Mandy has been guiding me into the 21st Century, helping me to build a solid foundation and functional back-end to my business, preparing it for growth, while encouraging me to use new tools and resources at a pace I can embrace and in a way that helps me to feel supported and confident rather than shamed or silly. Slowly but surely, she’s helping me to learn the things I need to know and let go of the things she can and wants to do for me so that I can focus on business development, client support and service delivery.”

— Dori Klass, Complexity & Depth Coach, Author of ‘From the Boardroom to the Bedroom’

“Mandy is so much more than an assistant. Among other things, she is extremely knowledgeable about social media, webinars, course launches, the back end of websites, all the nitty gritty that goes into setup and analyzing results and much more. All the stuff I’m clueless about.

She is also kind, easy to work with and responsive, which is one of the most important qualities in an associate to me. Grateful to have Mandy helping me to run my business and not sure what I would do without her.”

— Diane Rose-Solomon, Founder, What’s Plant-Based Cooking, Good Looking?, Author of “What To Expect When Adopting A Dog”

“Mandy has skillfully managed all operational work and has built a strong rapport with my clients, ensuring they feel fully supported. Mandy’s seamless integration into my practice has been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for her dedication and the positive impact she has on my business.

I simply cannot imagine working without her.”

— David Klemenz, Leadership & Career Coach

“I was nervous hiring somebody, because I am so used to doing everything myself. But working with Mandy was incredible, she was so fast, reliable and masterful at her craft! It would take me two days to do what she can in just minutes.

I am so relieved to know that I don’t have to do this all by myself and there is an EXPERT who is also so NICE to help me with the parts of my business that I just don’t know how. If you are thinking about hiring Mandy, do it! She knows her stuff so you can focus on the parts of the business that you are good at and enjoy!”
